On the minute, it’s a product that’s dividing opinion.
As idolized since it is hated, you have to have seen some it everywhere, on the great displeasure of the many critics, who feel that in France, Canada Goose will be the new Moncler within a negative sense.
But on the other side of the fence, there are several fans who, for love nor money, would not spend a winter without their Canada Goose clothing (and who I think only have recently joined the club ).
Important: I lived in Montreal through the end of August 2012 to June 2013, so I wore my Canada Goose Jacket Sale in several conditions (from nearly -20°C with wind, as much as 8°C once i returned to France for 3 weeks), therefore i think We have a rather extensive, clear view on the caliber of the merchandise.
So, like a lover of men’s fashion, beautiful materials and good fitting clothing: precisely what do I think about bulky parka?
Just before I report back, I’d like to take the opportunity to think about Canada Goose’s brand image, that is rather ambiguous…
Hate it or love it – 50 Cents feat. The Game
Ah…the price. This is the flag the critics of Canada Goose proudly wave. For almost all haters (and trust me you can find lots) you’re a sucker if you buy a Canada Goose because:
In reality, everything can be better within an ideal world if Canada Goose wasn’t so expensive, as even biggest haters are unanimous over the quality of the pieces.
Considering the caliber of the merchandise, you have a lot for your investment. I’ve looked and honestly, you can not find anything cheaper using the same quality (warning, my criteria failed to just boil right down to ‘it must keep me warm’, I’ll return to that a bit later on).
People often talk to me about North Face, which surprises me each and every time. As if there’s an extremely expensive brand, it’s that. Honestly, to pay nearly 450 dollars for the 100% synthetic parka (fur and down), created in China, now that’s VERY expensive for what exactly it is. Read more about synthetic vs down insulation here
And then there’s one factor that’s never considered by the critics: the cut.
Because it should be noted that it’s difficult to get parkas cut along with a few of the Canada Goose designs. I’ve rightly said some designs, seeing as there are some that can make you look such as a walking refrigerator.
walking refrigeratorSnow Mantra, 1200 Canadian dollars. It’s the warmest design, bound to make you stay warm as little as -60°. It’s employed by Alaskan miners and those who work in the oil industry in far-flung icy parts of the world. There’s a strap around the shoulder that can save you in desperate situations. You won’t look anything special with this particular lying on your back, but no less than you’ll stay alive.
military inspirationBanff, probably the most modified model of the brand, using a nice enough military inspiration. It’s only flaw? No pockets to maintain your hands warm: it’s within your interest to have some gloves!
Being a side note, when you’ve spent the very last 5 years looking for the best cut items of clothing to your figure, it’s a weighty argument. Nevertheless I completely understand that it’s possibly not the truth for everyone. Inside my case, I simply can’t overlook it.
‘Yes, but you’re paying for a brandname!’
I’ll tell the truth with you, that’s the things i thought to begin with, nevertheless it isn’t the way it is.
Really, not at all. For example, Quartz Nature is actually a lesser known Quebec brand containing the identical prices as Canada Goose. Likewise, Kanuk, which is 100% a Quebec brand (the workshop is simply next door to my home) is much more expensive than Canada Goose, with prices easily exceeding the 800 dollar mark!
KanukA Quartz Nature parka, 620 dollars, using a quality that’s equivalent to Canada Goose, though with a totally different brand identity for Quebecers, since the products are made in Quebec (french-speaking). And also at this price, nobody dares to suggest that you’re only paying for a brand…
So just why these prices? The fur that you simply see on the hoods is pricey. Being a point of interest, Kanuk sells interchangeable furs for the hoods for between 200 and 300 dollars. And there are no secrets: for the piece that’s not created in China, with down and quality finish, you quickly reach the 500/600 dollar price, or more. It’s the genuine value of things.
Kanuk (The greatest Quebec coat brand, but which costs a fortune and is also targeted at a rather older audience) has this fur strip which alone costs…270 dollars!
I’ve gone off with a slight tangent, however it seemed necessary because, in my opinion, Canada Goose is a brand that may be unfairly stigmatized.
Right, so what’s it really like wearing a Canada Goose parka on a daily basis?
There’s no reason for drawing out your suspense: in the winter conditions of Montreal, it’s spectacular.
I am not surprised that the brand is given to workers in a few governmental bodies, simply because you have the feeling that its design is caused by a hellish experience in the cold.
For me personally, there are loads of brilliantly thought through details. That goes through the wire round the hood to the thick, robust zipper (a detail sometimes missing from North Face designs, hello to the uphill battle when you’ve got gloves on) to the two pairs of pockets for your hands lined completely with fleece, without forgetting the thick fleecey chin-protector.
And would it really help you stay warm?
Completely. It’s just as if you’ll never feel the cold again. Even that slight morning freshness, or when you’re expecting the bus, or whenever you walk home after having a winter’s night out, you will be never cold. I can’t remember being cold once this winter. The security from the wind is exceptional. One weekend, I found myself at the carnival in Quebec, which is to say spending six hours outside having a temperature that’s approaching the -20°s, however with some wind (I do not know how much this g0ose exactly how the temperature feels, but say a minimum of an extra -10°) and it ought to be noted that you’re protected perfectly in the cold. Even at -20°. Even the size of the zipper remains safe and secure, which implies the wind just never gets near to the inside your parka.
What’s more, the hood is super well made, and even when you don’t place it up, it protects your ears. Basically this hood that protects the head perfectly from high winds is absolutely great, really effective.
On the other hand, these aren’t the clothes for any sustained sporting activity. If you’re skiing at -15° and it’s windy, you’re definitely going to sweat. Originally, Canada Goose Jacket Sale were created for workers doing plenty of standing around (which explains why bouncers love the emblem). Extreme mountain climbers tend to consider brands like PHD, with equally impressive technical features. The Wiggy brand has some completely fire-proof parkas…
Nonetheless we’re still lightyears from a Wooyoungmi coat getting an absolutely perfect cut. But having tried out a number of, Canada Goose is among one of those rare parka brands to worry about the cut of a selection of their designs. Thus I was surprised to discover that the shoulders of Banff, Chateau, Ontario and Citadel designs (one of the most ‘tight-fitting’ designs, everything relative) have been labored on and therefore are relatively high. If chosen well for your personal size, the parka doesn’t hang off the shoulders, it’s neat and tidy.
Finally, and I was surprised, it usually is the truth together with the most urban pieces which a size S is actually a ‘true S’. Similarly, Canada Goose even does a size XS which happens to be good to understand.
